Recently 20 pupils from St. Comhghall's College Lisnaskea took part in their annual Ski Trip to the prestigious resort of Kitzbuhel in Austria the, home of the World Championship Ski Downhill Event held in the Hahnenkamm.
The pupils enjoyed six days of skiing and instruction by a fully qualified ski instructor from Austria. None of the pupils from St. Comhghall's College had skied before but by the second day they were skiing Blue Runs on the Ski Slope and by the third and four days were skiing from the top of the Kitzbuhel Horn a mountain of over 2000 metres, the week concluded with the students from St. Comhghall's conquering the most difficult slope a black run with the assistance of their instructor.
The students were accompanied by Mrs. Maguire (PE Teacher), Mr. Kelly (Principal) and Doctor John
Porteous (GP) from Lisnaskea Health Centre who provided excellent and professional medical advice, help and support to all the students both on and of the slopes and the school would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Porteous for giving up his precious time and for all his help.
The students from St. Comhghall's College also enjoyed many apre ski activities ranging from tubing down a mountain, ice skating, quizzes and a ceili.
During the ceili the pupils from St.Comhghall's invited a Danish School who were sharing their hotel to join them for the ceili. The pupils and staff from St. Comhghall's taught the Danish Pupils and their Teachers how to perform the 'Waves of Tory' and many other traditional Irish dances.
During the week long trip all the pupils were a credit to their families, St. Comhghall's, their community of Fermanagh and the country of Ireland. All pupils expressed how much they enjoyed the trip and wished to develop their skiing skills further at a later date.
