Staff and pupils at St. Fanchea's College came together across a range of Departments recently to host an entertaining, educational and fun-filled Medieval afternoon.
Under the revised curriculum, girls from Year Eight participated in the joint departmental project involving the subjects of History, Music, Art and Textiles, Home Economics and PE. And, having spent hours in the classroom working on the project, students came out on the day to weave the various elements together and put on an impressive display.
The incorporation of a Northern Medieval Production Company enabled pupils to set up a medieval scene in character dressing up as Norman knights and ladies, and completing a short sketch in costume using weapons.
And to make the scene all the more atmospheric and appealing to the eye, the sketch incorporated a real life falcon and greyhound.
The display commenced with the Art and Textiles Department with students displaying their medieval goblets, and fleur de lise made in class. Each Year Eight pupils also designed an individual Normal symbol which were combined to make and complete a beautiful tapestry for display.
The Home Economics Department presented a Medieval banquet complete with a Norman Lords and peasants table. Entertainment meanwhile was provided by the Music Department with students composing their own Medieval chant using words, song and instruments.
The presence of acrobats, juggling, tumbling and general physical entertainment was provided by the P.E. Department.
The History Department meanwhile, shared their experiences in a sketch based on what they had learned in class about medieval life.
