A 20-year-old Enniskillen man faces a combined £600 fine and has had six penalty points endorsed on his licence for a number of motoring offences following a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
Resident Magistrate Bonita Boyd heard how on Saturday, 6th January, David Galbraith from Floraville was driving a blue Vauxhall Astra on Mill Street when he collided with a stationary van causing minor damage. The defendant left the scene and was got outside at his home address. He was spoken to by police and said 'I am very sorry'. His father, the Court heard, had not given permission to drive the vehicle and the defendant admitted that he had taken the vehicle to go to the shop.
Defending, Garry Smyth said his client was a 20-year-old man who had pleaded guilty and when spoken to by police had made full admissions.
He had taken the keys of the vehicle with the intention of going to the shop to buy cigarettes. He accepted that damage had been caused to the third party's vehicle. For driving without insurance, Ms Boyd imposed a £200 fine and endorsed six penalty points. For driving without permission she imposed a £100 fine. For failing to remain at the scene and for failing to report, she imposed a £150 fine on each offence.
