An Enniskillen man has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £250 when he was detected driving home from work having consumed too much alcohol.
Fermanagh Magistrates Court was told that David Martin Lewis (35), from Silverstream Court, came to police attention on the Wellington Road, Enniskillen, shortly before 3 o'clock one morning in May this year. Officers noticed he was driving his Vauxhall Astra car without any lights turned on. Lewis was stopped by police at the Broadmeadow and, when they spoke to him they detected a smell of intoxicating liquor from his breath.
When tested, the defendant registered 126 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, that is 46 in excess of the legal limit. Defence solicitor Garry Smyth told the court his client had been working on the night in question and had 'gone for a few drinks after he finished work.' However, he agreed his client 'had consumed too much alcohol'.
