The RSPB in Lisnaskea have recently unveiled a fantastic make-over to its premises, made possible by a £5,000 community grant through the B&Q 'You Can Do It' Awards 2006.
In June of this year, RSPB was selected as one of 21 winners in the scheme, having been short-listed from over 2,000 entries.
Michaela Clarke from Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was joined by Stephen Gibson from B&Q Newry to celebrate the grand unveiling. RSPB Northern Ireland is part of the UK wide charity working for a healthy environment for birds and other wildlife. The £5,000 worth of products awarded by the UK's leading home improvement retailer, B&Q, has been used towards the creation of the community wildlife garden which is segregated into different areas in order to attract different forms of wildlife. B&Q products have been used to help create a garden area that consists of flowers and plants to attract butterflies and bees, an area with bird tables, feeders and spring flowers to attract birds, and an area with hedges and trees to attract hedgehogs.
Michaela from RSPB says, "We are delighted to reveal the make-over. Without the 'You Can Do It' Award from B&Q and help from the Newry store, we would not have been able to renovate our facilities it will make a huge difference to the local community who come here."
Stephen Gibson from B&Q Newry said: "We were thrilled to be involved with one of the winning 'You Can Do It' Award projects and look forward to celebrating the opening of the community wildlife garden. Our team of in-store experts were pleased to be able to help RSPB select the best products to complete their renovations. As you can see, the award has made a fantastic difference both to the project and the local community."
