Thursday 9th November will be an exciting night and the culmination of a project between four schools in the Sliabh Beagh area, St Comhghall's Lisnaskea, St Eugene's Roslea, Lisnaskea High School and Fivemiletown High.
The project was initiated by The Sliabh Beagh Development Association as an exciting way to implement literature into the arts programme currently running in the locality. Eight classes, two from each of the four schools gave the project its title and a little look into what the world of teenagers is all about. Donna Bannon, the Arts Co-Ordinator for Sliabh Beagh heralds the book as a rich tapestry of writings, poetry, photography, artwork and opinions a book for teenagers written solely by the young adults.
Poet and Editor Heather Brett compiled the work into book format and loves the results. The night of the launch will see some of the contributors read from their work.
The book has come about due to the Six Creative writing and poetry workshops that were delivered within the 1st year of the Sliabh Beagh programme. There was a total of 150 participants aged between 14-16 years old. They were given a platform to discuss and write about issues that were important within their lives including family, friends, drug and alcohol use, teenage pregnancy, bullying, sports etc. The young people received guidance on how to express themselves with the written word throughout and the moving, funny and insightful results are there for all to see.
On the night there will also be a special performance from 'The poetry Chicks', A Derry based literature/performance trio. Admission is by invitation only and the book will go on sale on the night. For further information or to obtain a copy of the book please ring Donna at 028 67751918.
