The efforts of local construction materials manufacturer, Acheson & Glover, to help solve a crisis facing wildlife in County Fermanagh is to be featured on national television in this Sunday's Channel Four series, Wild Thing I Love You.
Presented by comedian Bill Bailey, the series follows the attempts of an eco-strategist, a zoologist and an engineer to help wildlife overcome difficulties their human neighbours put in their way.
In this week's programme, the team is in County Fermanagh to investigate the problem of pine martens which belong to the weasel family - entering houses in the Marble Arch Caves and Florence Court area. Engineering solutions used to solve the issues involved include a project at a local disused quarry where staff from Acheson & Glover, Fermanagh District Council and Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland team up to improve and protect the local environment for the creatures.
Acheson & Glover's health, safety and environmental manager, Aaron Currie, comments: "Through our work with Laverne Bell, the Quarry Products Association's Biodiversity Officer we are frequently involved with nature conservation protection and enhancement as quarries offer great biodiversity potential. We were therefore only too delighted to assist when we heard about the plight of the pine marten".
"The partnership approach demonstrated in the programme highlights what can be achieved when business and environmental groups work together to share their expertise and resources to support conservation projects."
Aaron adds "We believe it is vital to play a positive role in the environment especially for wildlife".
