Authors and artists comtest for deaf children

Deaf children and young people from across the county are invited to take part in the annual Young Authors and Artists competition organised by The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).

The competition is open to all deaf children and young people 4 to 18 years old. There are three age categories: 4 to 8-year-olds, 9 to 13-year-olds and 14 to 18-year-olds.

This year the entrants are asked to answer the following question: "What would you like to be when you grow up?" using creative writing or visual art. Participants can enter through their school or by themselves.

Special deign templates have been created to assist with the entries. These can be downloaded from www.ndcs.org.uk/whats_on/ndcs_events/ni_arts_competition.html

The competition deadline is Thursday 30 April. Prize winners will be announced at annual Award Ceremony in Belfast on Wednesday 17 June.

Stacey Kilpatrick, NDCS NI Arts Officer said the competition incorporates creative exploration and expression.

"Deafness makes it harder for children to communicate, which can be very isolating. NDCS co-ordinates a wide programme of arts events like this for deaf children in Northern Ireland, which aim to enhance their self-confidence and independence."
