Pupils celebrate difference

The pupils of Clogher Valley Integrated Primary School were given an insight into the different cultures and traditions around the globe when they were visited by the Women of the World group recently.

Women of the World are a local organisation of ladies who come from all different parts of the World and are at present living in Fermanagh. The group aims to celebrate each others differences and encourage participants to show tolerance and respect to people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds. They aim to encourage friendships across the World.

The workshop was organised by Anita Mukherjee from India, chairperson of the organisation, and Maria Therese, from the Philippines.

The workshop involved a PowerPoint presentation on other countries, viewing and dressing up in international costumes, a drumming and dance session. The evening was a great success.

Several of the parents dressed up in international costumes such as the Indian suri and all the ladies and girls were given a bindi to wear on their forehead. The children loved the drumming session and everyone got up to enjoy some Indian and salsa dancing.

The Woman of the World shared a beautiful poem called a 'Bouquet of Flowers' to encourage the children to be proud of their differences from each other. An Easter Bonanza has been organised on Saturday 4th April at 2pm.
