As part of Omagh Spring Arts Festival 2007, a short drama on the subject of teen suicide, performed by specialist health promotion theatre company HeARTh, will be performed on Thursday 1 February 2007 at 11.00 am in the Minor Hall, Omagh Leisure Complex.
'Revolving Door' by Polly Wright is a short drama which sensitively explores the subject of teen suicide. The play is part of the Rethink mental illness anti-stigma campaign January-February 2007. Unfortunately, suicide, especially among young adult males, is a growing problem across Northern Ireland with recorded deaths growing by almost 100% over a 3 year period.
The one hour play has already toured the length and breadth of England in theatres, village halls and schools and, despite its difficult subject area, has been well received and greatly appreciated by audiences.
Three actors play multiple parts switching effortlessly between characters, all of whom provide some insight into the life of Martin, the deceased teenager. Mother, son, coroner, doctor, fellow band members and teachers - all the significant relationships and people in the life of a troubled adolescent who can't seem to make himself heard.
Up to 500 pupils aged 15 and over from all post primary schools in Omagh District will attend this production. For more information, contact Bernie Kirrane on 028 8224 5321.
