ENNISKILLEN ......................................2-18
NEWTOWNBUTLER ..............................1-3
Enniskillen remain easily on course for their place in the divisional final as they cruised past the weak challenge presented by Newtownbutler. The winners had galloped into a commanding seven point lead at the interval and after the changeover their dominance became even more pronounced.
Newtown in fact were to manage just a single point in the closing thirty minutes as they were put under the cosh by a rampant leaders.
For Newtown, who had their best moments in the first half, Jarlath Jackman was their most forceful player operating around the middle of the park while Adam Cartwright had his moments in the full forward slot. The Newtown goal came from Shane McDonald with points added on by Gaby Jones and Jarlath Jackman.
The Gaels had popped in two goals prior to the break, though it was not until late in the half that they did make the breakthrough. Gary Donegan drove home the first and this was then quickly followed by the second, the marksman this time being Richard O'Callaghan.
Conor McAleer was to be an especially prolific forward for the Gaels and he finished with an impressive tally of eight points, four of these coming from open play. Other points scorers for them included, Gary Donegan and Greg Tierney.
In an Enniskillen defence which gave practically nothing away in the second half there were to be particularly steady contributions from half backs Kirk West and Paul McMullan.
GOALS COUNT FOR IRVINESTOWN
BELCOO ..............................................0-12
IRVINESTOWN ....................................3-8
Goals counted in this game with Irvinestown notching three in all and these scores swept them to a five point victory over Belcoo. Two of the goals came in the opening half, the first in the fifth minute and this put Irvinestown well on their way.
Darren Byrne was the goal poacher and ten minutes later a second was added through Sean McMulkin. The leaders were also to shoot points from Liam Murphy and Chris Lyons and in response to this a struggling Belcoo could only answer with a four point tally which left then seven adrift at the interval.
On the changeover Belcoo did make a strong bid to clip back the deficit and Eunan Mullally was lively for them in the attack with Jonathan Feely picking off points, mainly from placed kicks. But the chasing side really required a goal to haul themselves back in with a realistic chance of catching the leaders and this never looked like materialising.
Instead the third goal when it did come, went once again to Irvinestown, this was netted by Chris Lyons some ten minutes from time and that sealed the matter up, Irvinestown quite comfortable in the closing minutes.
For the winning side, there were solid displays from Conor McQuaid at half back and from Dean McAlynn and Ciaran McGoldrick while Liam Murphy further up the park had another outstanding contest.
For Belcoo, midfielder Paddy Burns had his moments in the second half and others to work hard for them were goalkeeper Paul Duffy and defenders Eoin Leonard and Martin Corrigan.
TEMPO COMMAND SECOND HALF
TEMPO ................................................2-11
ERNE GAELS ........................................0-4
Level at the interval on four points each, it was home side Tempo who were to step up through the gears in the second half and in the end they coasted to a facile win over Erne Gaels.
The visiting team really had only one short patch of dominance in the sixty minutes.
This came in the closing ten minutes of the first half when they put Tempo under some pressure and they scooped up three points to tie the match. But that was the best from them and as the second half progressed they steadily fell away.
Near to the finish with a wide gap now separating the teams, Erne Gaels did manage to mount some raids but poor shooting was to let them down. For the losing side, Paul McCaffery tried hard in the middle of the park, Chris O'Neill and Gary O'Connor had their moments in defence.
Goalkeeper Darragh Keown was in fine form for the Belleek boys and he made several fine stops over the course of the hour.
As for Tempo they had excellent defenders in full back Thomas Warnock and in half backs Ross Dolan and Jamie Campbell while Seamus Bogue led the attack well. The introduction of Ryan Ingram at the interval also injected extra bite into the Tempo effort.
The early minutes after the restart saw Tempo ease well ahead with a goal from Seamus Bogue and points from Aiden Breen and Liam Donoghue, these scores effectively knocking out the Erne Gaels challenge.
Full forward Bogue was to fist home a second goal on the threequarter mark to put the issue beyond all doubt.
