In its Centenary year, Scouting Ireland has received a People of the Year Award in recognition of 100 years of activity throughout Ireland.
Erne County Commissioner Tony Smith, said the award reflected the movement's 'unique contribution to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual and social potential'.
"Our Chief Scout Martin Burbridge and two youth members of our 36,000 strong youth membership were presented the award on behalf of our membership.", he said.
He went on: "The presentation of such a prestigious award to the Association recognises the tireless, selfless effort being put in by our volunteers throughout the country in educating and encouraging the development of the young people in their local community."
The People of the Year Awards, which are now in their 34th year, are among the longest-running Awards events in Ireland. They are organised by Rehab, sponsored by QUINN-healthcare and were televised live by RTÉ. The Awards provide a unique opportunity for the public to honour outstanding contributions to society and to give real recognition to people whose achievements and stories lift and inspire, whether they be unsung heroes ordinary people who do extraordinary things or household names who have made a real difference to people's lives.
