As part of the Enniskillen Arts Festival, Fermanagh Concert Band will be appearing in the Library Hall (upstairs) on Friday 3rd October at 8.00pm. Admission is £5 and £3, concessionary, with tickets available both on the door and in usual Festival outlets.
The concert is part of a very busy year for the band who, between now and June will be travelling to Co Meath to do a joint concert with one of Eire's top-notch outfits, Ardee Concert Band as well as hosting an American band from Minnesota called 'Star of the North Concert Band', who will be visiting in late June and will be the band's only Northern gig on a tour of the island of Ireland. Furthermore there is a very exciting 12th Night planned for January, a jazz supper evening in the spring and a host of other exciting projects.
Fermanagh Concert Band's repertoire is wide-ranging and for this concert the emphasis is on big band, jazz and swing as well as some film music and one or two other treats from the stage. One thing is for sure, your feet won't be still for very long!
The band's Musical Director had this to say; "we're really looking forward to this particular concert as the acoustic of the upstairs hall is lovely for our kind of music. It's a nice space, intimate yet big enough to give a real concert feel." He went on to say, "the band has a nice balance of wind, brass and reed which together with our percussion section, gives a real authentic feel to the spirit of the music, it should be a great evening's entertainment."
Fermanagh Concert Band are also always keen to recruit new members, if you play a brass or woodwind instrument then please contact the band through their website, HYPERLINK "http://www.fermanaghconcertband.com" www.fermanaghconcertband.com which has full joining details.
The band also has 'The Elastic Band', which is a trainer group which meets and overlaps with the main band. This is not a class to learn an instrument but a good introduction to the band's music if you've only played exam stuff or haven't played for some time.
So if the music of the likes of Glenn Millar, George Gershwin, the James Bond movies, the film 'Jazz', Henry Mancini and much, much more takes your fancy, put on your foot-tapping shoes and head down to the Library on Friday 3rd October.
