Popular Enniskillen model maker, Gordon Johnson, had made his last model, at least for commercial purposes. Having made the decision to stop selling his models Gordon is looking forward to spending his time making images which indulge his imagination.
His final commissions have seen Gordon create 'Sir Patrick' for the Aughakillymaud Mummers, and make some final models for the Christmas production of Hello Dolly at the Ardhowen Theatre.
Gordon admits his work has always been an indulging of his passion: "I've been making models as far back as I can remember," he explains. "Certainly from back in the early 70's."
While many will be familiar with his figurative work, Gordon explains over the years he has also created museum dioramas, and architectural models.
Preparing to relax a little bit more Gordon adds: "I'm looking forward to be able to do more of what I want, and having the time to do it.
"My favourite type of model making is fantasy models, and this isn't always what people want to buy to stick in their drawing rooms. But it is these types of models which I enjoy. My inspiration comes from all sorts of places, mainly my imagination, but then our imaginations are just different experiences stored in our minds."
Recalling his favourite creations over the years, Gordon highlights a steam train, he made a few years ago, along with a life-sized model of a girl on a Victoria bicycle, and a mobile beauty salon.
