A 42-year-old plasterer, who was detected using a fraudulent tax disc in Enniskillen has been fined a combined sum of £450 and has had seven penalty points endorsed on his licence for a number of motoring offences.
The Resident Magistrate at Fermanagh Magistrates Court, Liam McNally, heard how on 28th March this year, John James Gibbon, from Towncastle Road, Strabane, was driving a Toyota along the Old Belfast Road, Tamlaght, when he was using a fraudulent tax disc. At the time, Gibbon told police, 'It was just silly, I thought with the other vehicle being off the road, it would be OK'.
It later transpired that Gibbon was not insured to drive the vehicle.
He told police he knew that he was not insured, but that he had received a call late at night.
Defending, Bernard Corrigan reported that Gibbon got insurance the day after detection. He said his client had been silly.
Mr McNally said it was serious offence to fraudulently use a tax disc. He ordered him to pay a £200 fine. For driving without insurance, Gibbon was ordered to pay a further £250 and had seven penalty points imposed on his licence.
