Belcoo take on Derry champions Coleraine this Sunday in Dungannon in the semi-finals of the Provincial Intermediate Championship.
The Derry side progressed last Sunday when they produced a feisty display to oust Donegal holders Cloughaneely at Ballybofey on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-9.
Headlining the impressive Derry team's display was the contribution of the McGoldrick brothers, Barry, Ciaran and Sean Leo. A McGoldrick combination crafted out the first of the Coleraine goals and when the Derry side shot a second quickly they put themselves in the driving seat.
They went in at the break leading by those two goals but went off the boil a little in the third quarter as Cloughaneely staged a forceful revival that trimmed the deficit to three points.
The revival was stalled with an inspirational point by Barry McGoldrick and though the game was in the balance to the finish a committed Coleraine held on for an impressive win on enemy territory.
Belcoo will obviously be conscious that Coleraine are going to be yet another significant step up in quality. But the Fermanagh side have been enjoying a superb season and in recent weeks have succeeded in raising their own personal bar. They will have derived massive self-belief from their second half showing against the Down champions. A game that saw a host of players serve up top notch displays and more of the same next Sunday will mean that Belcoo have every possible chance to make it through to the provincial decider. Hopefully, there will be more training sessions scheduled on the shores of Lough MacNean over the coming weeks.
