The pen (computer) of Belleek historian and author, like his village fellow writer, John Cunningham, is rarely idle. To date, he has had three books published, one , 'Phantom Airman', a fictional account based on WW2 aeroplane crashes along the 'Donegal Corridor' on which he is an acknowledged authority.
He has in fact not only recreated an account of those tragedies but, with the help of fellow historians, people like Breege McCusker, he has organised the laying of a memorial to which the relatives of those killed, some from as far away as the US, have attended, together with military personnel. Not content with focusing on one book coming out this year, Joe has in fact three lined up! One of them is a history of Camlin Castle which is located between Belleek and Blalyshannon. The castle gates and the tower are still there.
"I have been in touch with members of the Camlin family in England. It's a great way to get more copy!".
The second book he is working on is a history of the almost 100-year old St Michael's Church, Mulleek. It was built in 1810. His third and final production for 2007 will be another work of fiction.
"It's a follow-up to 'The Phantom Airman", he explained.
