Overtaking a lorry while a car was coming in the opposite direction has landed a Galway man before a sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with driving without due care and attention.
Before the court charged with causing an accident on 30th December last year was Michael Anthony O'Connell (37) from Caraun, Claregalway, Co Galway. For the charge the defendant was fined £75 and had his licence endorsed with three penalty points. The court heard that on the date in question, the defendant was driving along the Letterboy Road, Kesh when he attempted to overtake a lorry. The defendant's vehicle collided with a Vauxhall Corsa, which was coming in the opposite direction. His own vehicle then spun and collided with the lorry causing a three vehicle accident.
Defending, Garry Smyth accepted this was a bad misjudgement on behalf of his client. He told the Court his client was from Co Galway. The defendant comes from a farming background and, so, his licence was essential to his livelihood.
