Enniskillen new boy to the sport of motorcycle racing Grant Molloy is taking on the cream of young British talent in the mainland this year.
The 20 year old son of well known business man Grahame Molloy only started short circuit motorcycle racing in 2006, and only competed in five races. Known better a few years back as an up and coming footballer with Ballinamallard Y. F. C, Grant has taken on the new and very different challenge of two wheel competition.
In late 2006 Grant Attended a race school in Jerez, Spain where non other than moto gp star Jeremy McWilliams recommended he try the Yamaha R6 Cup.
The one make series now known as the Virgin Media Cup, designed to bring on young talent is part of the British Super bike Series and has prime television coverage.
A massive challenge by anyone's standard and especially to someone with so little racing experience, but the young Enniskillen man is looking forward to giving it his best.
He has already competed in two rounds at Brands hatch and Thruxton. Unfortunately food poisoning ruled him out of racing at Brands Hatch after qualifying in 20th position. Grant was delighted with his 16th place at Thruxton and only being two seconds off the pace.
"A realistic goal for me would be finishing in the top ten this year" Grant comented "There is a fantastic depth of talent in the U.K but I am relishing the challenge"
Grant has competed at Aghadowey this year already where he enjoyed a 7th and 8th on his standard Suzuki GSXR 600 against more powerful machinery.
Track days in Spain ran by Woolsey Coulter ex British 250 Champion helped in preparation for this year's campaign. His team are intending to keep the local press updated on Grants performance throughout 2007.
