Ulster Unionist MLA, Tom Elliott, has welcomed action by the PSNI in the village of Ballinamallard after a number of residents approached him with concerns about ongoing anti-social behaviour.
The Assembly member said: "In recent weeks I had received a number of calls from increasingly concerned residents worried about individuals in the community who were showing no regard for the people around them and partaking in anti-social activity."
He outlined some of the incidents: "Reports of incidents included cases of public exposure, materials been strewn across the road and in neighbours' gardens and late night noise disturbances. On number of occasions, people were challenged by the individuals causing the trouble and as a result, many residents, and in particular children and senior citizens, felt very afraid and intimidated.
"Upon been made aware of the situation, I was in constant contact with the PSNI to seek an immediate solution. I am glad to say that they were aware that the situation had evolved and took appropriate action."
A police spokesperson confirmed they have received a number of complaints from Ballinamallard residents in recent weeks, and that the PSNI had been working to deal with the problems.
He said the most recent incident occurred in Friday night (19 September), when a car struck a pedestrian and a lamp-post before driving off. He confirmed one man and one woman had been arrested regarding this hit and run incident, and had been released on police bail pending reports.
