RAINEY OB II ....................................................... 0
ENNISKILLEN ..................................................... 55
Enniskillen got their competitive season and Junior Cup campaign off to the best possible start, with eight tries and a clean sheet.
The scoring started in the seventh minute and was the result of a great initial break from new boy Mark O'Shea down the right wing, ably supported from fullback by Michael Law.
The break opened up the midfield, where Alan Wilkinson crossed for the first of his two tries. Jay van Biljon, Enniskillen's South African player-coach, added the extras for a seven point start.
Enniskillen were enjoying both possession and territorial dominance and van Biljon added a penalty with thirteen minutes gone, increasing the lead to ten.
Five minutes later and the lead was further increased. A penalty opportunity was passed over and the decision was justified when John Courtney bagged the first of his hat-trick of tries.
This time van Biljon missed the conversion, but was spot on shortly after when Gavin Warrington emerged from a bundle of players having scored after a clinical catch and drive from a lineout.
The first half scoring was far from finished with two more tries to come. With twenty-eight minutes gone, skipper Gary Hall picked up the first of his two tries following some excellent continuity and team play from 'Skins, keeping the ball alive.
Again van Biljon added the conversion, and he was successful with the final kick of the half, converting Wilkinson's second try.
Wilkinson and Nick Finlay had both exerted excellent pressure in midfield, resulting in a turnover and following a lineout ten metres from the hosts' line Wilkinson took the ball at first receiver and burst through the defensive line to score.
With a thirty-six point lead at halftime, the only surprise was that it took twenty minutes of the second half before Enniskillen added to their tally of five tries, but when it came what a try it was.
Gareth Beatty once again showed his ability and pace breaking down the left wing beating three defenders before offloading to David Taylor in support and he in turn found skipper Hall who romped home for his second score of the day, with van Biljon successful with the conversion.
Enniskillen's forwards had all but destroyed the Rainey scrum time and time again, and with thirteen minutes to go were rewarded with a push over try, scored by Courtney, which van Biljon converted despite the best efforts of the Rainey touch judge, bringing up 50 points!
The scoring ended with five minutes remaining when Courtney grabbed his hat trick from yet another dominant scrum. Ricky Connor made the initial break, but Courtney was there to round things off, leaving the final score at 550.
An excellent start both offensively and in defence and one that must instill confidence in the side ahead of what should prove to be a sterner test this coming weekend when Coleraine visit Mullaghmeen.
