This year is the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, and on Tuesday, 21 November respected television journalist, Paul Clark will give two presentations in Enniskillen Library based upon this period.
Paul will relate the story of James Duffy VC, from later in the Great War. He was from Donegal and won his Victoria Cross in 1917. He was a member of the Inniskilling Fusiliers, and his Victoria Cross was donated by his family to the museum in Enniskillen Castle, where it remains today.
These talks are scheduled to commence at 10.00am and 11.30am respectively, and are open to the public and invited schools.
Paul will speak about events in Ireland leading up to the formation of the two divisions which were engaged at the Somme, 36th (Ulster) Division, and the 16th (Irish) Division. He will also discuss their individual involvement in the Somme campaign, which lasted five months. Additionally, he will show a short programme which he made telling the story of the Ulster / Irish VC's won during the Somme.
Paul also promises one or two surprises during his presentations which promise to be both informative and enjoyable.
