The rich musical heritage of Fermanagh together with sounds and rhythms both new and old merge in next Sunday, July 2nd night's concert of traditional music, song and dance at St Mary's Community Centre, Tempo.
Created and directed in Red Lagoon Studios, Monea by Lisnaskea guitarist and sound engineer Ian Smith and Belfastborn flute player Gerry O'Donnell, the Erne Rising project brings together musicians of the region with invited guests. While most of these musicians are from traditional backgrounds, some are also classically trained and from jazz, rock, country and world music backgrounds.
Celtic harp, fiddle, flute and accordion combined with contemporary instruments make up the rich tapestry of sound that is Erne Rising.
The music is from and about our location, our natural environs and human history. Tonight's concert includes songs and melodies from the locality and features guest singers Elaine and Rozi Murphy, county Down, and Tempo fiddle player and composer, Catherine Dunne.
Bridin McElroy and Fintan Shevlin, two of Fermanagh's most talented young traditional dancers, bring their creativity and vitality to the stage with their spectacularly choreographed dance routines.
New compositions featured, including "Sunset on the Erne" by Jim Mc Grath "Jigsaw" and "The Black Gate Reel" by Pat Mc Manus, "Clearwater" and the "Whitewater Reel" by Gerry O'Donnell and 'Lakeside' by Ian Smith, will be included in the much awaited Erne Rising album being launched towards the end of the year.
Together on stage, musicians, singers and dancers offer the audience an opportunity to experience a unique and vibrant presentation of Irish music from Fermanagh.
