The National Trust will be hosting a special afternoon for visitors to swap stories and share memories of past school days at Crom Demesne on Sunday 2 July.
Historian Vicky Herbert, who has already published a book about the history of the scenic Lough shore estate, will lead the unique afternoon, recalling childhood memories at the Old Crom School. Visitors will be able to listen to recollections of life on the estate in years gone by and memories of the School, which was open from 1820 1953.
The National Trust was delighted to be able to acquire the Old School House four years ago and has carried out essential maintenance work, whilst retaining that special character of a schoolmaster's residence and large open plan classroom for all pupils. The school rooms will be accessible on the day.
The afternoon will include a spectacular cot trip to the school (weather permitting). Crom's traditional Cot, a flat bottomed craft used on Lough Erne is 100 years old and was used to ferry children from Inisherk Island and Derryvore to the school.
The Old School Days event will begin at 3pm. Visitors should meet in the Visitor Centre Reception. Admission : Adults £3.50, children £2.00
Adult members £2.50, child members £1.75.
