Summer plans

This week's conversation takes place between Déaglán and Seosaf as they discuss their plans for the summer.

Déaglán: Bhuel a Sheosaif, cad é mar atá tú?

Seosaf: Go maith a

(Guh MOY a YEG-loin, ogus TOO HAIN?)

(Good Declan, and yourself?)

Déaglán: Tá mé ar mhuin na muice, beidh mé ar mo laethanta saoire anois dé hAoine.

(Taw may air WIN na mWICK-ka, bay may air muh LAY-hanta SEERA anish J HAIN-ya.)

(I'm on the pig's back, I'll be on my holidays now on Friday.)

Seosaf: Sin ar dóigh. An mbeidh tú dúdóite nuair a bheidh an scoil dúnta?

(Shin air doughie. An may TOO do-DAWCHA noora VAY an skull DOON-ta?)

(That's brilliant. Will you be bored when the school is closed?)

Déaglán: Táim cinnte nach mbeidh! Beidh mé amuigh le m'athair ar an fheirm an chuid is mó den am i rith an lae agus tá post páirt-aimseartha agam chomh maith ar shuíomh campála sna tráthnóna.

(Tam KIN-cha na may! Bay may AMWEE le MA-her air an AIR-im an HUDGE iss MO jen AM eh REE an LAY ogus taw pust PARCH-I'm-shirra ogam HO MOY air HEE-uve camp-PAULA sna TRA-nona.)

(I'm sure I won't be! I'll be out with my father on the farm most of the time during the day and I have a part-time job as well on a campsite in the evenings.)

Seosaf: Ó beidh tú an-ghnóthach mar sin. An bhfuil tú ag dul ar laethanta saoire i mbliana?

(Aw bay too an-RAW-ha mar shin. An WILL TOO egg dull air LAY-hanta SEERA im MLANE-na?)

(Oh you'll be very busy then so. Are you going on holidays this year?)

Déaglán: Tá mé ag dul chun na gaeltachta. Rachaidh mé chuig Machaire Rabhartaigh i mí Lúnasa go ceann coicíse. Tá scaifte mór againn ón scoil ag dul, tá mé ag súil go mór leis.

(I am going to the gaeltacht. I'll go to Machaire Rabhartaigh in August for a fortnight. There's a big crowd of us from school going, I'm greatly looking forward to it.)

Seosaf: Go maith. Is deis an-mhaith é sin le cleachtadh a dhéanamh ar do chuid Gaeilge.

(Guh MOY. Iss JESH an-WOY ay shin le CLACK-too a YEN-noo air duh HUDGE Gail-IGGA.)

(Good. That's a very good opportunity to practice your Irish.)

Déaglán: Sin ceart agus beidh mé ag déanamh staidéir ar an Ghaeilge don Leibhéal A2 an bhliain seo chugainn mar sin ba mhaith liom bheith chomh líofa agus is féidir.

(That's right and I will be studying Irish A2 Level next year and so I'd like to be as fluent as possible.)

(Well iss DAW-ha guh may shall sa Yail-talked ina HUDGE-you MOY ditch. Taw MIDGE-na air HUEL hun na Spoy-nya faw HIN-ya kick-KISHA an V shaw HUG-geen.)

(Well it's likely that a while in the gaeltacht will be of good help to you. We are away to Spain for a fortnight next month.)

Déaglán: Ar fheabhas. An bhfuil Spáinnis agat?

(Air O-iss. An will SPAWN-nish ogat?)

(Excellent. Do you speak Spanish?)

Seosaf: Tá beagán Spáinnise agamsa ach tá Spáinnis mhaith ag mo bhean chéile.

(Taw BUG-on SPAWN-nisha ogamsa ah taw SPAWN-nish WOY egg muh VAN HAY-la.)

(I have a little Spanish but my wife has good Spanish.)

Déaglán:Bhuel bain sult as sibh féin.

(Well BWIN sult ass shiv HAIN.)

Seosaf: Bainfidh agus bain sult as do chúrsa sa Ghaeltacht.
