Farming
for the
environment
at Balmoral Show

What an achievement! Over 13,000 farmers are managing their land under agri-environment schemes.

A visit to the Countryside Management exhibit in the 'Working For You" Government Department Exhibit in the Balmoral Hall, will let you see the benefits being delivered under these schemes.

Over 40% of farmland is under management agreement, improving biodiversity, protecting our heritage and enhancing the landscape. For example, almost 1,200 hectares of grass margins are being managed to provide habitats for the Irish hare and other wildlife, whilst over 6,000 hectares are managed for breeding lapwing and other wading birds. The target is to turn around declines in these species.

The Countryside Management exhibit also summarises key issues in the Nitrogen and Phosphorus Regulations which were introduced in January this year.

Advisers will be available throughout the whole of Balmoral Show to discuss any queries you may have.
