Mallards go through in Cup thriller

FERMANAGH MALLARDS ........... 2

CARRICK RANGERS ................... 2

Fermanagh Mallards hosted Carrick Rangers at the Bawnacre Centre in the Coca Cola Championship Cup last week and came away with a hard fought win, which was secured on penalties.

Carrick went ahead early from the penalty spot on in the game but the Mallards struck back through Louise Thompson and when Lynne McFrederick added a second, it looked as if the Fermanagh side would push on and win the game.

But Carrick fought back well and it took a brilliant save from Lisa Woods to deny them an equaliser at the start of the second half.

Carrick did restore parity, however, and the game entered extra time and then penalties to decide the winner.

Woods was in inspired form in the Mallard nets and saved twice to give Mallards the win with Louise McFrederick scoring the winner in sudden death.

Ballinamallard now face Dromore Amateurs in the next round.
