Ulster Minor Hurling League

TYRONE.....................................1-6

FERMANAGH.............................3-7

Fermanagh chalked up their first points in Division 2b, Round 2 of the Ulster Minor League played

at D'Arcy Park, Tattyreagh, last Saturday.

Having gone under, but done well, to Down in the opening round, Fermanagh had built up an impressive 2-3 points to 0-2. This victory is all the more impressive when one considers for Fermanagh were without their iconic attacker, John Duffy.

Fermanagh got off to a great start with a point and then a goal from Sean Corrigan, followed in the 5th minute with a second goal, scored by full forward Ciaran McGrade. It wasn't till the 23rd minute that Tyrone got their first score, sub Mark Rafferty pointing from a free. Fermanagh's response was a point from midfielder, Francie McBrien and another from Sean Corrigan Tyrone replied with a well taken point from midfielder Aodhan McHugh

That left the score at 0-2 to 2-3 in Fermanagh's favour, and they began the second-half in style, Sean Corrigan stylishly pointing before Conor Brogan converted a free for Tyrone who were far from vanquished. Brogan tapped over another free and was soon joined in this mini scoring spree by his teamate Aodhan McHugh to leave two goals between the sides.

But, in the 10th minute, any hopes Tyrone had of a complete revival disappeared when Fermanagh's right full forward, Eoin Markey banged home a third goal to leave the margin a 3 -4 to a mere 0-4 for Tyrone. And, Fermanagh increased their lead when the supremely inform Sean Corrigan fired over for his fourth point.

Tyrone were down but they were not out. In the 15th minute, Mark Rafferty banged home their only goals and now, greatly rejuvenated they mounted attack after attack but a tenacious Fermanagh backline closed all doors.

Fermanagh took inspiration from the backs and, firstly sub, Michael Fee helped himself to a point and, with less than five minutes to full time, after repeated incursions, they had their last score, a well taken seventh point from Gary Donegan.

Tyrone, to their credit, refused to quit and added a further two scores from the talented stick work of Mark Rafferty.
