BROOKEBORO ..........................2-7
CLANN NA GAEL .....................2-16
In this midweek game of last week, home team Brookeboro were unable to contain a stronger visiting Clann Na Gael and the Armagh team were to run out fairly comfortable winners having led all the way.
Brookeboro were once again fielding a somewhat depleted team and they had an uphill battle on their hands from an early stage. Clann made a quick breakthrough with their first goal which came around the tenth minute.
This was the end result of a fluent movement which involved a number of players before full forward Henderson drilled in his shot to the top of the net. The visitors were to shoot a five points tally prior to the break and Brookeboro were to be restricted to just a handful of sporadic points.
Aiden Boyle from a placed kick, Niall Rooney and James Howell from play were to be the Brookeboro scorers but matters did improve for them on the changeover with an increased scoring rate.
This was highlighted by a two goal burst, Niall Rooney snapping up the first of these on the threequarter mark with a quickly taken free which caught the Clann' s defence napping. The score was a boost to Brookeboro but they were still well adrift as the opposition was always swinging their way through for regular points.
Former Armagh county players Barry O'Hagan and Diarmaid Marsden were on target for them and it was this duo who created the second goal for their team working a neat one-two which O'Hagan clinically finished off.
Brookeboro did have a second goal themselves, this arriving five minutes from full time. A good individual score this from Donal Boyle who fielded a high ball lobbed into the Clann's goalmouth and he then swivelled neatly before smashing home a close range shot.
It was a deserved score for a Brookeboro side who had battled gamely from the outset and for them there was to be a strong defensive display from Shane McGeehan at full back and Niall Rooney showed some good touches in the attack.
Second half points scorers for Brookeboro included Peter Mellarkey, Niall Rooney and Chris McGeehan with Mardsen and Henderson knocking over points for the winners.
