A 25-year-old Kinawley man has been fined £400 and has had six penalty points endorsed on his licence for a number of motoring offences.
The Resident Magistrate, Liam McNally, sitting at Fermanagh Magistrate's Court, heard how on the 16th November last year, police detected Adrian McGerty from Main Street in the village, driving a Vauxhall Cavalier without a seatbelt at Main Street, Derrylin. It later transpired that he was a Provisional licence holder and was driver unsupervised, without insurance and without 'L' plates.
Defending, Dan Morris told the Court that his client was working in Killeshandra, County Cavan. He normally took an insured vehicle to work but, on the day in question his partner had this vehicle. He told the Court that McGerty now had insurance for both vehicles. His client had one child and another on the way.
He had no previous convictions of any kind, he said and the defendant accepted his guilt. He was currently waiting on his date to come up before he could sit his theory test.
Addressing the defendant directly, Mr McNally told him he was now 25 and it was time he got on the road lawfully. For driving without insurance, he imposed a £250 fine and six penalty points. For driving without a seatbelt, while unaccompanied and for failing to display 'L' plates, he imposed a £50 fine for each offence.
