Irvinestown suffer a slip up at home

IRVINESTOWN .........................0-9

BUNCRANA ..............................1-9

Irvinestown failed to make home advantage pay off for them in this Ulster league tie last Sunday when they went down to visiting Donegal side Buncrana.

The winners laid the foundations of their success in the opening half, a spell which saw them collect the bulk of their score tally.

It was in these opening thirty minutes that they had the home side under considerable pressure and they were to go in at the interval leading by five points. The key score for them had come on twenty minutes when they fired in what was the game's only goal.

Irvinestown had been restricted to occasional ventures up the park but they did manage to keep within range as they scooped up a four point tally, Sean McLoughlin, Conor McGuigan and Manus O'Kane on the scoresheet.

They might also have grabbed a goal but on two occasions they were to be denied that breakthrough by excellent shot stopping from the Buncrana keeper.

On the changeover, Irvinestown did succeed in shading exchanges and they outscored the opposition on a score tally of five points to three. But they needed a goal to inject real conviction into their game and that score never arrived.

For Irvinestown there were sound defensive displays from Conor Doonan at full back and from Emmet Doonan at centre back. In the attack Gary Maguire featured well after the break with a couple of scores and others to do well included Conor McGuigan and Manus O'Kane.
