Rockin' for Cancer Research

A group of young musicians got together recently to organise a gig with the aim of raising money to raise money for Cancer Research NI.

Seamus Bogue, from Tempo, was one of the organisers of the recent event which took place in the Milltown Manor in Tempo.

Along with friends, Jason Gallagher and Barry Slevin, he gathered together a number of bands and decided to hold a special, one-off concert

Seamus is a member of the band, 'Route 66' while his two friends are in, 'Animal'. Using these two bands as the starting off point, they boys got 'Savage Rabbits', 'Lets Go Zero', 'Bondage Drunkies', 'Antioch' and 'Ozzmium' to come along and place a few songs on the night.

"Every band played a few tracks and the night went on until about 12 midnight," says Seamus. "There was a £4 cover charge, with all the money going to the charity (except for a small fee to pay for the sound."

Seamus says that as all the boys are in bands they thought, 'why not organise a gig, and raise money for a charity/ a good cause'.

As a result of the night in the Milltown Manor, the boys raised £320 which they presented to the manager of the Cancer Research shop in Enniskillen.

"This is the first time we attempted something like this. We estimate there were over 150 people in attendance," says Seamus.

Seamus also said it is the first time he has played in the Milltown Manor, but hopes it won't be the last time.

Seventeen year old Seamus is a student at Fermanagh College, Jason is at Art College in Belfast and Barry works locally (both are 18 years old).

Seamus hopes, after the success of this fund-raising gig, the friends might get around to organising another concert closer to Christmas.
