Book your breast screening today

Gordons Chemists has partnered with Action Cancer in calling out for women in the relevant age range to complete a form to have a breast screening at Action Cancer.

Action Cancer offer breast screening to women aged 40-49 and over 65 who fall outside the NHS screening programme.

In Fermanagh, there are approximately 4,237 women aged 40-49 and 4,736 women over the age of 65 who are eligible for the charity's screening service, but many of them may not be aware that it exists.

Every month approximately 1,100 appointments are available through Action Cancer House and the Big Bus which travels across Northern Ireland spending a month at a time in each Board area.

The campaign, themed, 'Screening Saves Lives' will encourage women not to put off their screening and to 'Act Now'. Whilst women will be able to complete the forms during the whole month of October, the store will use Friday 17 October, Breast Action Day, as a focus to encourage as many women as possible to come along. Maureen Symington, the Manager of the Gordons Chemist, Enniskillen, said: " We believe Action Cancer is providing a unique and invaluable service and are delighted to be doing our bit to raise awareness and encourage more women to be screened, and thereby more lives to be saved."

Support from Gordons Chemists has enabled Action Cancer to develop a new leaflet about their breast screening service. The leaflet is also available in-store, from Action Cancer and downloadable from the Action Cancer website, www.actioncancer.org

Anyone interested in obtaining an appointment should drop into Gordons Chemist store or call the Action Cancer appointments line on 028 9080 3344 to obtain an appointment in Action Cancer House or on the Big Bus when it next visits the area.
