Belleek fire crew fights to contain Astoria blaze

Fire-fighters from Belleek were involved in a major cross-border operation at the weekend as they fought to contain a massive fire which broke out before midnight on Saturday at the derelict Astoria Ballroom Complex in Bundoran.

Two appliances from Belleek, including one water tanker, attended the scene along with three appliances from Donegal. They remained there for most of the night.

Two firefighters from Donegal sustained minor burns as a result of the fire and were taken to hospital.

The ballroom, which is owned by hotelier, Brian McEniff has been inactive for some time and was vacant when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it is been treated as accidental.
