This week, the chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Alex Baird, hosted a reception to welcome more Cherynobyl Children to Fermanagh.
He congratulated their hosting committee, the Fermanagh Branch of the Chernobyl Children Committee on their continuing efforts to raise the profile of the consequences of the nuclear power plant disaster which occurred in Cherynobyl, Ukraine, in 1986.
Although the disaster occurred 21 years ago, he noted, there remained serious implications for the health of children born in the area.
WELCOME
Mr Baird said the Council was delighted to welcome the children to Fermanagh, in particular those from Mozyr who were visiting the county for the first time.
"Fermanagh District Council," he told his young audience, "is always pleased to see events such as your visit take place in our county.
This is a marvellous opportunity to develop new friendships and to share experiences.'
The children are staying with host children in Fermanagh for three weeks.
During this time they will be undertaking a varied and interesting programme of events which will ensure they see the best of the region.
