Among the many fun events and competitions taking place during the two days of the forthcoming Fermanagh County Show will be a 'Tug-o-War' competition.
Organised by the YFC (Young Farmers Club) the 'Tug-o-War' will take place on Tuesday evening between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
Talking about the event, Trevor Armstrong, Development Worker for the YFC said two teams (one junior and one senior) from each of the clubs in the county will be taking part in this event.
Fermanagh has the third largest number of YFC members in Northern Ireland and there are currently six Young Farmers clubs across the county - in Lisbellaw, Lisnaskea, Kesh, Florencecourt and District, Derrygonnelly and Churchill.
There will be six members in each of the 'tug-o-war' teams and team members must also be YFC members to be eligible to take part.
And, to ensure everyone is able to get involved in this event there will be all-female teams taking part in the competition as well as the traditional all-male teams.
Trevor Armstrong explains that initially the YFC had planned an 'It's a Knockout' type event for this year's Show but he said that, as a lot of their games involve water and there is a Show Dance on the Tuesday night it was decided the 'Tug-o-War' competition would be more suitable - i.e. less cleaning up required.
The Show Dance, which takes place next Tuesday night (7th August), will be held at Enniskillen Rugby Club, Mullaghmeen and at that dance the 2007 Show Queen will be picked. Trevor says that the Show Queen doesn't have to be a member of the Young Farmers Club, nor indeed does she have to come from Fermanagh. One of the previous show Queens came from Israel, Trevor points out.
"The Show Queen will be selected from all the girls who are at the Show Dance on Tuesday night," says Trevor. Once selected, the Show Queen will be on duty at the Show on Wednesday where she will help out with the presentation of prizes.
The YFC will have a stand at the show, which will be there on Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday.
Those who will be manning the stall will have details of all the local clubs and details and photographs of all the recent activities the YFCs have taken part in, as well as a full calendar of the events and activities for the coming year.
"It will be something of a Recruitment Drive looking for new members who might wish to join the YFC," says Trevor.
Trevor also explains there will be a draw run at the YFC with the top prize a £100 voucher for the Carphone Warehouse. There are between 250 - 300 YFC members in Fermanagh but Trevor says that they always need more people to come along and join up.
