Councillors' seats up for grabs?

There is every likelihood that at least one if not two or three of the sitting members of Fermanagh District Council could resign due to, in one case, a possible clash of interests, and, generally, pressure of work.

The three that could be affected are all NI Assembly members, or MLA's as they are known, 'Members of the Legislative Assembly'. They are - Arlene Foster (DUP), who yesterday formally took over as Minister for the Department of the Environment in the new Assembly Executive; Tom Elliott (UUP), who is vice-chairman of the Assembly's Agriculture Committee, and Gerry McHugh (Sinn Fein).

Mr Elliott told the 'Herald' he saw no reason, at this stage, to pack in the Council, but he went on: "Clearly, I am going to have to look at it. I would not like to make any concrete decision on it at this stage. But, we will keep it under consideration".

Neither Arlene Foster nor Gerry McHugh have decided on their future at the Council.
