The prize winners in the annual Fermanagh Road Safety Committee Poster Competition were put up on display at the Lakeland Forum rcently.
The competition was open to children from Primary and Secondary schools across the county and sixteen schools in total took part.
The brief for the poster competition was left very open except that it had to have a relevant road safety theme included somewhere in the poster.
Maurice Nelson, from the local Road Safety Committee, explains, "We left it up to the children (the theme), and let them decide. They had to be no bigger in size than A3 and the children could use crayons, pencils, a computer or any materials they wanted to."
Maurice explains that once all the entries were received they were judged by a number of experts including art teachers from the local area.
Over 300 entries were received in total and the entries were placed into categories.
"The standard was very high - the work was very impressive" commented Maurice who said it was hard to select winners as all the work was so good.
The posters also displayed a high level of originality and showed that children are aware of many dangers out there on the road, and are aware of what things stand in the way of road safety.
Among the themes tackled by the children included speed, drivers using mobile telephones while driving and, what is viewed as very encouraging for the road safety committee, a few of the posters dealt with the consequences of people's poor driving on the roads - e.g. that accidents resulted.
