There is much happening in the world of heritage just now, and members of Clogher Historical Society are to the fore.
On this Sunday 31st May at 3pm, people from all of the religions of the diocese will come together for the Annual Ecumenical Gathering organised by the two bishops, Most Revd Dr Joseph Duffy and Right Revd Dr Michael Jackson.
The day offers the opportunity to meet, pray and socialise with those of other religions and to enjoy the beliefs we share in common.
This popular open-air event has in previous years taken place in places of historic importance, such as Rath Mór in Clogher and Aghalurcher in Fermanagh. To complement the service, Most Revd Dr Noel Treanor (Bishop of Down and Connor) will give a short history of the old church and graveyard and their importance in the early religious life of the area. Everyone is most welcome to come along. Refreshments will be provided afterwards.
A tour of the Battle of the Boyne site and the National Museum at Collins Barracks is planned by the Society for Saturday 6th June. This promises to be a very enjoyable day out, with a stop at the Visitors Centre and costumed re-enactment at the Battle of the Boyne site.
Collins Barracks houses the 'Decorative Arts and History' part of the collections and the tour will take in some pieces of local material on display there, including Surgeon McArdle's Donegal tweed suit!
A new exhibition commemorating Ireland's contribution to the UN Peacekeeping force will be opened on the day of the tour. There are still a few seats left. Contact Maire O Neill, phone (047) 71984 for booking. To learn more about Clogher Historical Society, have a look at the website www.clogherhistory.ie.
