Comedy is the name of the game this summer at Ardhowen with the focus firmly on making people laugh. Five different drama companies form the core of the entertainment, with the season opening on Thursday 4th June, when the popular Island Productions bring Patrick Cargill's very funny comedy 'don't Misunderstand Me' to the stage.
It's high summer in rural Surrey as Margery and Charles Flemming prepare to entertain Charles's brother and his new wife Jane whom they have never met.
At least it's Margery that's fussing about with last minute preparations while the bumbling Charles is more a hindrance than a help.
When Margery finds out that Charles has forgotten to buy the wine, the only thing she asked him to do, she pops out to the off licence in a panic.
In Margery's absence, Robert arrives without his new wife, who's been detained by her hypochondriac mother.
The two brothers discuss their marriages, their partners and their previous indiscretions, when the doorbell rings, not to announce the return of Margery with the wine, but a very attractive young lady asking for 'Charlie'.
With Margery due back any minute, Charles who is as close as possible to having a heart attack, immediately panics when he sees her, much to the enjoyment of his brother Robert. What happens next sets in train a series of confusions, hilarious and increasingly desperate cover-ups, mistaken identities and wild deceptions. When a further calamitous ingredient is added to the mix, together with a series of strange telephone calls, you have all the madcap elements that make this a hugely entertaining evening in the theatre.
This is the eighteenth production from this popular company who have previously presented plays such as, 'Look Who's Talking', 'Bedroom Farce', 'One For The Road', 'How The Other Half Loves', 'Who's Wife Is She Anyway' and the classic's 'Juno And The Paycock', 'The Playboy Of The Western World', 'The Beauty Queen Of Leenane' and 'Dancing At Lughnasa'. The strong cast includes Caroline Stenson, Eamonn McFarland, Christine Irvine, Martin Quinn and Nadia Stenson and is directed by Eamonn Bradley.
It runs for seven performances, from Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th and Wednesday 10th to Saturday 13th June at 8pm. There is a special 20% discount offer for tickets for the 4th June performance.
