This Sunday, October 19th, RTÉ's bi-lingual, regional and community affairs programme, Pobal, will be presented from Enniskillen, where presenter Caroline Ní Dhubhchóin talks to Right Reverend Dr Michael Jackson, Bishop of Clogher, about his Church of Ireland diocese which has parishes in Fermanagh, Monaghan, Leitrim and Donegal. The diocese recently commissioned a survey dealing with protestant attitudes in the border regions and Caroline checks out why the survey was undertaken and what use can be made of the findings. Pobal features reports from both rural and urban communities about issues that affect people's lives.
During the programme, Pobal also examines the urgent need for organ donation among the more than 600 people awaiting life-saving transplants in this country.
The programme will also feature a report from West Cork, where although a ferry currently services the island of Cape Clear, locals on the island feel they are at a severe disadvantage in comparison to other islands, because they do not have a Roll On-Roll Off Service.
Pobal also reports from South East Sligo, where a major clean-up operation was carried out on Geevagh Parish community pitch recently. A landslide in the locality had left most of the pitch unplayable.
The Scoil an Phobail segment of the programme comes from Christian Brothers College in Cork City.
From Achill Island in Co. Mayo, there will be a report on the fishing industry as fishing stocks decline and catches are restricted in recent years.
Pobal can be seen at 5.25pm on Sunday on RTÉ One.
