Fermanagh College successfully punching above their weight in ladies football

Punching well above their weight in the Higher Education League Competition, Fermanagh College Ladies Gaelic football team have had an excellent start to their season. Over the past couple of weeks they have enjoyed successive wins over; University of Ulster, Magee and Queen's University 2's.

Again fielding from a small but determined panel the girls are showing their eagerness to compete and win.

They ran out easy winners over Magee on a score line of 6-6 to 1-0 in their first outing of the year and followed it up with a major upset on Wednesday by beating Queens 2's.

They took on a well established Queens 2 team in their own backyard and beat them by a score line of 3-12 to 3- 5.

Playing in terrible conditions Fermanagh College controlled the game from the start with an early goal settling them down.

Fermanagh College points came from, Sharon Little, Aisling Traynor, Shona Mc Gonigle, Sharon Cassidy and goals came from Dympna Moane and Joanna Farell (2).

With the defensive unit working very well together and strongly marshalled by team captain Niamh Gilbride, Queens's scoring opportunities were limited. Stephanie Harpur in goals showed growing confidence in her new position.

The biggest challenge however comes on Wednesday with a game against UU Jordanstown. Consider by many as the strongest team in the division, the girls will have to play at the top of their game to compete but spirit and confidence is high so anything is possible!
