Every cuppa counts!

Every cup counts, according to the Chairman of Fermanagh District Council. Council Chairman Alex Baird joined with Macmillan Cancer Support this week to urge people to come out and support the World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, 28th September.

"I would ask everyone in Fermanagh to support this very important fundraising event. What could be more simple than boiling the kettle. Everyone should get involved, it's easy. However much you raise, whether it is £10, £20 or £200, Macmillan needs your support, my support, everyone's support more than ever."

The World's biggest Coffee Morning is in its 17th year and one of the largest fundraising events in the UK. Last year, nearly 2,000,000 people took part by hosting or attending coffee events across the UK raising £6.5 million. This year, 'the streat' are one of several major corporate partners supporting the event.

Every year 270,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. One in three people will get cancer with 1.2 million people in the UK living with the disease. All money raised helps Macmillan be a source of practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those affected by cancer.

Every £1 raised can make a difference to help people through the cancer journey. For example: £22 could fund 100 copies of 'The Cancer Guide' with information about cancer, its treatment and care; £50 could buy a liquidiser for someone who can't eat solid food as a result of their illness; £100 could allow someone with cancer to keep the heating on when they really need it; and £350 could pay for a much-needed holiday for someone with cancer and their carer.

People can hold a coffee morning at home, at work or at school. To hold a coffee morning for Macmillan, register by calling 0845 602 1246 or visit www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee. People can also make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support by cheque or online or pay by debit and credit card on the number above.
