A 52-year-old man faces a £100 fine and has had four penalty points endorsed on his licence after he drove carelessly.
Resident Magistrate Bernadette Kelly heard how on 26th March this year, police were called to the scene of a four vehicle road traffic collision on the Lower Chanterhill Road, Enniskillen. The Court heard that the defendant, Charles Guy from Caron Boy, Lisnarick, had been sitting in his vehicle in a queue of traffic prior to the incident.
INJURIES
There were no injuries reported initially, but minor injuries were later reported by drivers and passengers. No defects in the brakes were found.
Defending, Garry Smyth submitted that his client had made an early plea to the charge of careless driving. He had been driving for 17 years.
On the day in question, he had been driving a lorry that he would not normally have been driving and so was unfamiliar with it.
He had been in a queue of traffic. Prior to striking the car in front, he had not left himself enough time to stop and, despite his best efforts, the collision occurred.
He said his client apologised for his behaviour. He had a clean licence, which, he said, was essential for his employment.
For the offence, Guy was fined £100 and had four penalty points endorsed on his licence.
