A 40-year-old Enniskillen woman faces a £75 fine and has had four penalty points endorsed on her licence after she was convicted of careless driving.
Fermanagh Magistrates Court heard how on 24th May this year, police were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Cornagrade Road, at the junction of the Factory Road, Enniskillen. One of the drivers was the defendant, Clare McCool from The Limes.
As a result, the 71-year-old injured party sustained injuries, including a broken arm and minor cuts. He spent two weeks in hospital and was told that he would have considerable discomfort for the remainder of his life.
Defending, Frank McManus told the court that his client had been driving for 20 years and had been a very careful driver. The RM said people should, 'Think once, think twice' and that it was about time they learned.
Mr McManus said that his client was extremely sorry for the injuries sustained to the elderly man but she was convinced that she was driving carefully.
Ms Kelly commented that, 'It is those type of drivers that were the scariest on the road'.
For the offence, she imposed a £75 fine and endorsed four penalty points for what she said reflected what was quite a nasty incident.
