The World Pipe Band and Drum Majors Championships takes place on Saturday 11th August 2007 in Glasgow Green, Glasgow.
Among the record breaking 250 Bands taking part will be three local County Fermanagh Pipe Bands.
The Irvine Memorial (Clabby) Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Neil Strong will compete in the Grade 4B Competition.
The Irvine Memorial has the task of competing in the qualifying heats in Grade 4B at 9.05am.
Derryclavin Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Gordon McKeown will compete in the Grade 4A competition. This is the first time that Derryclavin Pipe Band will compete at the World Championships.
Derryclavin Pipe Band has been drawn to play at 11am in the qualifying heats of Grade 4A.
The third Fermanagh Pipe Band to compete at the World Championships is Killadeas Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Mark Dunlop.
Killadeas Pipe Band will compete in the Grade 4A competition. The band has been drawn to play in the Grade 4A qualifying section at 12 noon. Killadeas Pipe Band has previously won the World Title in the Grade 4A.
Two Fermanagh Drum Majors will compete at the World Championships. Lauren McKeown (Junior Section) will compete at her first Worlds and David Brownlee will compete in the Senior Section. Both Drum Majors are from Derryclavin Pipe Band.
The World Championships attracts Pipe Bands and Drum Majors from all over the World including Countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Oman, India, Spain, France, Demark, Sweden, Japan, Italy and Ireland.
The objective of the Pipe Band Association is to promote and encourage the Cultural and enhancement of Pipe Band music.
The local Fermanagh Section of the Pipe Band Association meets on the first Monday of the Month in the Railway Hotel, Enniskillen at 8pm. The section wishes to encourage Pipe Bands to send representation to all its meetings. The Fermanagh Section is delighted that 3 Fermanagh bands and two Drum Majors will compete at the World Championships in Glasgow.
