Tully Castle will resound to the echoes of firing muskets every Sunday this month, as visitors receive a unique insight into 17th Century castle life. Costumed characters will unveil ancient armoury and domestic displays, as they share historic tales of the era.
Organised by the DOE's Environment and Heritage Service, the events offer attractions for families and history enthusiasts alike including striking weaponry displays of swords, muskets and armour.
Eileen Curry of Environment and Heritage Service explained:
"People will have the opportunity to savour a taste of life in Tully Castle between 1615 and 1641 at these unique events.
"Every Sunday afternoon in August (3-5pm) people will have the chance to explore armoury displays - representative of Planter and Irish weapons of the period - and learn how the ancient artefacts help tell the history of the castle.
"Meanwhile, a 17th Century woman will explain the domestic tasks of the day, with displays of food and herbal remedies reflective of the period."
The events will run on Sunday 12th, 19th and 26th August from 3-5pm and admission is free.
