An Enniskillen man who stole a sandwich and a bottle of drink from a convenience store in Enniskillen has appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with theft of the items.
Aaron John Paul Carty (18) from Inniskeen Close in the town was given a two year conditional discharge by Resident Magistrate, Bernie Kelly.
The court heard that on 28th August last year police received a complaint from staff at the Centra store in Enniskillen that two males had been observed stealing items from the shop. The defendant was identified by CCTV coverage and when questioned by police, he made a full admission to police.
Defending, Aubrey Murray said his client lived at home with his family. He told the court that this was a 'stupid crime' and one for which he was going to be detected. He submitted that the defendant had made a full admission, although he acknowledged Carty was building up quite a record for himself.
As against that, he concluded, a pattern was emerging in that when he was in employment the offending ceased.
"These offences are of a petty, foolish nature and this is an individual who is easily influenced by others," Mr Murray commented. He then instanced some previous offences, including stealing flowers and the theft of a bottle of Lucozade.
Sentencing, Resident Magistrate Bernie Kelly warned Carty: 'this is the last chance you are going to get'.
