New lease of life for lakeside restaurant

The famous Inishclare Restaurant which last operated as a Chinese Restaurant continues its international image when, mid-June, it opens as an American style Steak House.

Its new operators are the company which owns Lusty Beg in the Lower Lake who are also in the process of developing a boutique hotel at Mulligan's Bar/restaurant in Darling Street, Enniskillen.

The Cadden family who own Lusty Beg are in the process of redeveloping the bar and two family members, Michael and David together with Barry Lunny from Enniskillen are busy appointing staff to the Inishclare Restaurant, retaining its name.

Barry (26), who has been bar manager on Lusty Beg, will take on a new post as beverage and food manager in the Inishclare where he will work alongside its directors, Michael and David Cadden.

Speaking to the 'Herald', he was excited at the prospects of being involved with another lakeside eaterie: "I just feel that places like Enniskillen, people aren't going to spend £2,000 going to Malaga and what have you when they have places along the lake to eat, drink and sight see.

"I know from having worked on Lusty Beg that people from England, Scotland and Wales are coming in in droves.

"We are no longer perceived as a troubled area. And, then there are the people from North and South who form the vast majority of our patrons.

"Hopefully, when the Inishclare reopens we will get them coming here too."

The critical date for Barry & Co is Tuesday, 16th June for that has been pencilled in as the opening date for the Inishclare Restaurant.

"Would you believe, we have bookings from that date onwards? We're taking in staff at the moment.

"We're starting from scratch, so it will be all kinds of staff, including maintenance staff. And, as we become better known, we will be taking on more and more staff."

To counteract its out of town location, the Inishclare will operate its own taxi service during restaurant opening hours.

As already indicated, the home-bred Irish beef industry looks set to benefit from the American style Steak House menu.

"Yes, we will be stocking local products and sourcing local products, and we will be specialising in Fermanagh beef, American style.

"It appears to us to be the right image. You might not come across Cadillacs parked in the car-park, but inside you will be guaranteed the best cuts one can get anywhere."
