Trio dance to All-Ireland success

The Struttin' Stars Line dancing Club, who are based in Coonian, recently brought home three All-Ireland titles from this year's national finals in Castlebar.

In all, 13 young club members and six adults competed. They were accompanied by their tutor, Mary Wray who, speaking this week, commended Alex Thornton who was a runner-up in the U-8 Beginners section that was won by Jade McMahon, and the 10-strong Club Dance team who were also runners-up in their event.

The three winners were - Jade McMahon (U-8 beginners), Courtney McGoldrick (9-12 Newcomers), and Caitriona Bannon (13-15 Advanced).

Jade, like her club colleague, Alex, has just started line dancing with the Club and it was her first time to compete in the big time.

Courtney was a runner-up in this year's Europeans that were held in Bristol, so she is no stranger to the big time.

Caitriona has the distinction of bringing home to the club, for the second successive year, the Anita Swift Memorial Cup that was won for the Club last year by Samantha Gallagher. Caitriona's success is a neat progression for she won the 13-15 Intermediate Section in last year's All-Ireland finals.

Overall, the Struttin' Stars had 14 dancers placed in the top five category of the various competitions.

Mary Wray had no doubt where the key to success lay: "They trained two nights a week and attended line dancing workshops that were organised by line dancing super star, Jenny Stevenson from England. So, I must thank them for their hard work and dedication."

She also thanked the families and friends of the dancers for their support, and Michael Hanley (owner) and the staff of the Donn Carragh Hotel, Lisnaskea for the use of the hotel ballroom for training nights. The Club will be organising a celebration night to mark this fresh string of successes.
